The Best Appliances for Small Kitchens
Today we welcome guest blogger, Rosie Jane to our blog. She is giving us ideas on what kitchen appliances are the best for smaller spaces. Welcome Rosie!!
Most people consider the kitchen to be the heart of the home. It’s where you create life-giving food, and is a place where everyone is welcome! On many occasions, it even turns into a space for socializing with family and guests.
But not all kitchens are made equal. For some people, the kitchen they have is not as functional or as modern as the ones in glossy magazines. Or, it’s just downright tight. The challenge with tiny kitchens is, of course, fitting all you need in a limited amount of space. So, if you’re moving to a place with a smaller kitchen or have been struggling to work in one, then this checklist can help you prioritize the most essential appliances:
Oven toaster
If your place doesn’t come with a conventional oven, an oven toaster is a great compromise. Don’t underestimate this countertop appliance, for there are dozens of recipes you can make with it. If you’re a fan of roasted vegetables and meats, burritos, wraps, pizzas, and a whole lot of baked goods, a humble oven toaster has got your back.
Microwave
Any kitchen should have a microwave — period. It’s a great time-saving tool that can help with reheating frozen food, reusing leftovers, and even hacking a few recipes. When meal prepping for the week, a microwave is absolutely essential for reviving the freshness of your meals.
Food processor
Food processors are a multi-functional tool for the modern kitchen. They can chop, dice, shred and if yours comes with a blender attachment, you can make a variety of smoothies, sauces, and dips, too! An alternative is a high-powered blender like the ever-popular Vitamix. Did you know that you can also make your own peanut butter with a food processor or blender? It is a bit of an investment, but there are just an infinite number of things you can do with this handy kitchen appliance.
Rice cooker
Don’t think that a rice cooker only has the specific function of cooking rice — it doesn’t. Today’s rice cookers are multi-purpose and convenient. You can steam grains to perfection, sauté, and even simmer a tasty meal all in one device. And when you’re done with it, rice cookers fit in most standard cupboards and shelves so you can make the most of your space on your countertop.
Induction stove
Don’t have space for a full-sized stove range? Opt for an induction stove instead. Aside from the clear space-saving quality, it also promises energy efficiency, faster cooking times, and safety.
Hand mixer
Stand mixers are great for baking and all-around kitchen use, but they are also huge, cumbersome, and not at all cheap. The alternative for smaller spaces is a hand mixer, which might even have a slight functional edge over traditional stand mixers. Because it’s portable, you can be more consistent with mixing dough, batter, potatoes, or whatever you want to prepare!
Coffee maker
Can’t function without coffee? You should probably spring for a coffee maker. Standard coffee makers don’t take up much space and are perfectly capable of brewing a delicious pot of coffee. But if you want to save even more on space, consider getting a coffee press instead, which is very simple and easy to use and clean.
